Substitute Driver Service

I was reading the paper the other day and came across a very interesting article. The Taiwan Taxi Company and 7-Eleven have partnered up to offer the 'Substitute Driver' program. This service is available from over 4800 7-Eleven stores equipped with the IBON computer terminals. Although the basic fee begins at NT$1000 for a distance of 14 Km is a little steep, getting home in one piece is more important.

Make Up Your Minds Already!

Just a question...

Why is it that people stop in front of elevators and escalators to discuss what they should do next?

Not only is it annoying and inconvenient for those stuck behind them, it is also dangerous. I understand that whether to turn left or right is a big decision to make and requires much thought and input from those involved, but I don't think that it is too difficult to move to the side while contemplating.

Anyway...it's just a question.

Pong Pong

Alice and Pong Pong

I'm sure this doesn't happen "only in taiwan" but its something I never saw growing up in Canada...

Most of us have owned cats, dogs, fish, turtles, birds, etc. when we were growing up. Here is a picture of my wife Alice when she was young with her chimpanzee "Pong Pong".

Forget about "Lucky" bringing the newspaper. "Pong Pong where's my beer!"

Taipei 101's Advanced Repair System

Taipei 101 touted as being one of the world's 7 engineering wonders. With features such as a massive counter balancing mechanism and atmospherically stable, pressurized elevators capable traveling at 1010 meters per second. However, there is a secret that Taipei 101 has kept hidden from the public. It is so sophisticated and technologically advanced that if leaked, it could change the face of the world as we know it.

On a weekend trip to Taipei 101, I learned the secret. It is an advanced copolymer adhesive that can bond to any surface; porous and non-porous, wet or dry, solid or gas. It is used in Taipei 101 to repair cracked granite slabs. It is so strong that it could bond China to Taiwan in perfect harmony. This magical substance is...yellow packing tape! I know that duct tape is capable of such amazing feats, but packing tape?

Only in Taiwan...

I think this picture is pretty self explanatory...

Rain in an Elevator ?

ONLY IN TAIWAN does an apartment building flood from top to bottom.

Last week, before this weeks Morakot Super Typhoon, central Taiwan was hit with a serious rain storm. And like many rain storms that we see here on this island, everyone expected some flooding and water seepage in their homes. I live on the 10th floor of a 15 floor apartment building, so all I expected was a bit of rain spilling in from my window sills and air conditioner holes. What I got was way worse, and far more troublesome.
